Consultations (updated august 2025)

  • I’m changing my consultation process!

Moving forward, 30-minute consultations are only available for clients who have already booked an appointment. Consultations are a great opportunity to plan custom concepts and large-scale designs. In person collaboration is a great option for anyone who is seeking work which is a bit different to what you might find in my existing body of work.

One perk that comes with this updated policy is that I can now prepare your designs in advance to show you during your consultation! Previously, I didn’t start custom-design work without a deposit but moving forward this service will only be for clients with a booking.

If you decide not to move forward with your tattoo after a consultation that is absolutely okay! Please be advised that your booking deposit is non-refundable and will be used to cover my time. In the event that you just want to take some time and think about it for a bit longer, I can hold this deposit against a future booking (so long as it is booked in the same financial year).

    1. Consultations are only available for clients with a booking and are completely optional

    2. You are limited to one consultation per booking

    3. Consultations are between thirty minutes and one hour depending on the complexity of your piece. Please note that consultations cannot exceed one hour as I often have a booking afterwards.

    4. Please do not book a consultation for flash designs that don’t require extensive modifications or customisations-we will have time to do this at the beginning of your session

    5. You are required to provide me at least 3hrs notice if you are unable to make it to your consultation

    6. If you decide not to proceed with your booking after a consultation your deposit will be forfeit. Deposits are non-refundable and used to compensate me cover the cost of services such as the consultation, admin and drawing time. If you’d like to reschedule your booking to a later date I can hold it against your future appointment.

how to book a tattoo sleeve

  • Conceptualising a cohesive sleeve is hard. This is why I recommend booking in a consultation where we can discuss your ideas in person and come up with a plan on how this might come together as a tattoo. Normally, sleeves come together over multiple sessions. The time that this will take will depend on the level of complexity and coverage which you are hoping to achieve. Before your consultation I encourage you to compile as many references as you can. We will use these to design a custom concept that combines elements from each together into a cohesive design.

You don’t have to commit to multiple pre-planned day sits to start your sleeve. I recommend breaking the project down into smaller, achievable chunks. It’s really rewarding to see big projects like this come together over time. As you sit with the design in each stage, it’s not uncommon to have new, creative ideas about the direction it could go in next session. I recommend booking large pieces like this in the cooler months which provide excellent conditions for your tattoo to heal.

  • FLASH: Screenshot website/instagram references. I have a folder full of available designs that I recommend looking through before booking! Not all of the designs that I have on my website are on my instagram page. If you are after multiple pieces I encourage you to create a PDF document with screenshots of all the designs you’d like including a photo of your arm or whichever section of the body we are working on. It is helpful if you are able to add some notes too!

CUSTOM: Please DM me on instagram (sarahelliott_tattoo) for all custom concepts prior to booking. This is just to ensure that the design is within my style and ability. Once I’ve confirmed, please upload any references that might help through the booking form. I encourage you not to include a singular photo reference of another artists’s work as it is a breach of copyright to copy their design. If there is an aspect of another artist’s work that you admire and would like to inspire your tattoo (for example shading style, placement composition etc.) that’s okay, just let me know what it is specifically that you like so I can understand your vision!

  • Yes! I highly recommend booking a consultation beforehand, especially if we are working around existing tattoos or are doing something custom.

  • It’s hard to estimate the total cost of large-scale work. It really depends on the size and complexity of your design and how much we get through during your session. Generally I can get through roughly a sheet of A4 paper during a Tier 4 session. For sleeves you are probably looking at 1-4 Tier 4 sessions ($900 each) depending on the level of coverage you desire. At the beginning of your session or during your consultation I will be able to estimate how many sessions you are looking at.

Flash designs

  • Appointments can be booked within three tier ranges. If you’re not sure which one is best suited to your piece please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message. Measure what size you would like your tattoo to be diagonally and see which size range this fits in and the corresponding tier. If you click in to the booking description you will see a breakdown of where it will most likely fall within that price range depending on the complexity and size of the design.

    • Tier 1| Less than 10cm ($150-$380)

    • Tier 2| 10-14cm ($380-$680)

    • Tier 3| 14-18cm ($680-$900)

    • Tier 4| Day Sit (18cm+ $900)

    • Gap Fillers $180

Before your appointment I will show you some different sizing options and their prices. It's not uncommon to make changes to the design, size or placement on the day which is why I don't give you an exact quote before coming in because this normally changes. Before we start, I will confirm the final price.

The final price will be determined by the complexity of the design, size, placement(s) and the amount of time/energy required to complete the piece. If we are tattooing in a complex placement like stomach, chest, back, ribs, sternum, inner thigh or hips you should expect the price to be on the higher end of the spectrum as these pieces require additional time and energy.

Before booking please note that I do not tattoo necks, faces, hands, armpits, feet, pelvic area, ears, mouths, fingers, elbows or knees. I do not tattoo in colour or with white ink. I don’t have experience with coverup tattoos, so I'd recommend seeking specialist advice for this type of work. Please do not book a job with any of these ink types or any of these placements as I will not be able to service the job and will refund your deposit.

  • If you would like two or more flash designs in the same session please measure the total diagonal length of the designs and add them together. For example if you would like one design that measures 8cm diagonally and another that measures 14cm please book a tier 4 appointment as the total is over 18cm.

  • 1. Your deposit is non-refundable however if you need to reschedule within 72hours of your appointment it can be held against a future booking.

    2. I only tattoo with black ink-I cannot service colour ink requests at the moment.

    3. I do not tattoo hands, neck, face, head, fingers, private parts, feet, armpits, mouths or the inner thigh.

    4. Clients are entitled to one complimentary touch up on the condition that it is booked within 3 months of the original appointment date. Clients must not pick at their new tattoo, bump it or expose it to water or sunlight (showering excluded) within reason otherwise they may forfeit a free touch up.

    5. I reserve the right to stop the session at any time if you are disruptive, making myself and other clients uncomfortable, moving excessively, under the influence of drugs or alcohol or have used a numbing cream without informing me first.

    6. You must be over the age of 18 to get a tattoo in Queensland and will be asked for photo ID on the day .

    7. The physical tattoo we create during our appointment is yours, however the copyright of the artwork and design remains with me. All designs are repeatable unless you have commissioned a custom design.

    8. If you would prefer for me not to post photos of your tattoo online please mention it to me during our session.

    9. I have allocated ten minutes at the beginning of your session to consult with you about your piece. Please note that you can only make minor changes to flash designs on the day. You must consult with me at least 48hrs beforehand regarding any significant changes. If design modifications take longer than thirty minutes on the day you will be charged an additional fee which will be discussed beforehand.

Custom designs

  • I am accepting a limited amount of custom pieces. If you are interested in a custom piece please contact me with a some reference photos. If your request is within my style and skill set I will give you a quote so you know what tier to book and an estimated appointment cost. Unfortunately my Instagram DMs are a bit unreliable and I won’t always see your message so enquiring through my website is the best way to get in contact!

Please don’t book a custom job without checking with me first! I love custom jobs but I care about the quality of your tattoo and experience so I will only book jobs that are within my style and skill set!

  • You can use the flash tier pricing to get an estimate for what you should expect to pay for a custom design. Custom designs incur an additional fee to cover drawing time.

    • Tier 1 $40 custom fee

    • Tier 2 $60 custom fee

    • Tier 3 $80 custom fee

    • Tier 4 $100 custom fee

I will send you a copy of the design or a concept sketch a few days before your appointment. You are welcome to request changes to the design within reason. If the design requires significant changes (over an hours worth of additional drawing) you might incur an extra fee which I will discuss with you beforehand.

    • Black ink only

    • Please check with me via instagram before booking a custom design. This is just to ensure that it is within my scope and style. If you book without consulting me first we may not be able to proceed with the appointment.

    • Please do not ask me to replicate another artist’s work. Unfortunately this isn’t within my skillset and could also breach international copyright laws. If you’d like me to tattoo a historical artwork that is in the public domain I might be able to! Please include a hyperlink to the source though just so I can confirm that it isn’t going to breach copyright laws.

    • If you would like me to tattoo an illustration you have designed yourself please be aware that I might need to make some small changes so that it suits this art form.
